For six months, 25 goups of amateur dancers of different techniques (hip-hop, flamenco, tango, Brazilian or contemporary dance) have worked together, led by choreographers Yendi Nammour, Isabelle Cavoit and Samir M’Kirech, who all work in Marseille. The show gradually took shape via informal meetings, workshops, listening sessions and rehearsals. The result is a “mega” Rite of Spring performed in the Parc Borély. This project, inspired by an experiment initiated by the choreographer and director Alain Platel in Ghent, presents a historic musical masterwork and a cornerstone of the dance repertoire, previously staged by great choreographers including Maurice Béjart, Sacha Waltz, Pina Bausch, Angelin Preljocaj and Jean-Claude Gallotta.
